Where Children and parents can discuss their thinking, ideas and the world!
Fall or Autumn is full of deep and beautiful colors. As you know by now, I love to take pictures and share them with you! Many of the plants and vegetables in these pictures are indigenous or come from this part of the world. Please look at the pictures and read the captions. There are questions that will help you to think and learn more about the what is around you. You can visit our blog a few times this week. Have fun looking at the pictures. I had lots of fun taking them! Bundles of Indian corn tell us that fall is here. Corn or "maize" comes from the Americas. It was here before the Americas were colonized. Indian corn reminds us of Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims. Why are they bundles? Can you think of why we say these bundles have an ornamental or decorative use? Did you know that we say "an ear of corn" for one piece or cob or corn? What do you think? Can you guess what these plants are? Look closely at their leaves. They look like a vegetable that many of you eat. These plants are ornamental vegetables but you can eat them too. They are not as delicious as the ones you buy in the store and they turn bitter when you cook them. What is bitter? Did you guess what plant this is?

"Mini" means very tiny and i am sure there are around thousands of pumpkins. These gourds are very beautiful I have never seen them before and I cannot eat them also. I think they look like water bottles. I guess Indian corns are called bundles because they are tied together and they are used for decoration because they are so colorful. These plants look like broccoli and lettuce but i don't know the name of this plant. There are about 22 oval and circle shaped pumpkins. The face carved pumpkin is called jack o lantern. This is a really big pumpkin i have ever seen. I love these mum flowers. I have not read the book You have mentioned.

We started to count mini-pumkins but there were too many and we stopped at 109. Last weekend, we carved one pumpkin and tried to make a Jack-O-Lantern, but we forgot to buy a light. We first cut off the top (with stem) and scratched off all strings and seeds inside. We made a big mess but we had lots of fun.

Wow there are about a million mini pumpkins. How beautiful. We have two mini pumpkins in our house and one big one! Lauren loves eating pumpkins. They are quite yummy. Gourds look like angry pumpkins. Haha. Very funny. We also love corn. It's one of our favorite vegetables. The plans look like broccoli but they are more bitter. We don't like bitter taste. It's not delicious. When we went pumpkin picking we also saw a giant pumpkin. It was even bigger than the one above. We picked two pumpkins, brought them home and carved a wonderful cheerful face. We also put in a candle. It was so beautiful. We love our jack o lantern. Fall is one of our favorite seasons. Actually all the seasons are great ....they each have its wonderful attributes.

Mini means Small. I see more than 100 pumpkins. Gourd is occasionally used to describe crops like cucumbers, squash, melon. I have not seen them before. The shape make me think of pears. The leaves in the plant looks like spinach. The different shapes are oval and circle and I counted 22 pumpkins. The face carved on the pumpkin is called Jack-o-Lantern. I went to a farm for pumpkin picking. My brother got a pumpkin from his daycare which he decorated. I like the colors of the mum flowers.
