Thank you for showing such great interest in your child's education and progress. I was very pleased to discuss with you how we can work together to make sure your child learns and is happy in school. The conferences were a success and I am always grateful for learning more about you.
Here are some points that were raised by many of you:
We are beginning to talk about the different things that happen in winter. Please look at the Winter Learning tabs and discuss the new words with your child in your own language. We hope that you will be doing many of the things we are learning in class. All the children are very excited about playing in the snow, making snowmen, snowangels and having hot cocoa with marshmallows. If possible, try to share some of these things with your child.
We will be learning how to do a variety of things. Would you like to come in and teach us something you are an expert at? Please contact me by email.
Three Great Moments -
Can I please...?
We wrote a book called, Can I please...? in response to one of our favorite read alouds, Yes, Day! As 21st century authors, we own it in "hard copy", or the old fashioned way, and digitally in Issuu. The excitement in the children and the anticipation of knowing that they could go home and share it with their families is probably the greatest advantage of working with Web 2.0 tools.
They made sure I sent a notice home so they could read it with their parents. You can read it by going on the Fall Learning tab and scrolling down.
Parent-Child Fall Words
Parents and children are writing words that describe fall in our Answer Garden. Go to the Parent-Child Fall Words to take a look and add some more words! I am so pleased to see that you are extending what we do in the classroom at home, as a family. I am thrilled to see words in English, Spanish and Japanese. Thank you parents!
NJEA/NJN and Clasroom Close-up
We had a great day on Thursday when a TV crew came to do a story on how we use technology to extend and enhance our learning. Everyone was amazing and I could not be more proud!
Watch our story on NJN -NJEA Classroom Close-up, NJ on February 14 and 18 and March 21 and 26 at 7pm!
I teach English learners. My passions are early childhood, literacy, advocacy and bilingualism. I believe that deep thinking has no one specific language. When we teach our students a new language we are empowering them to use it to convey their thinking. As a parent advocate, I am devoted to working with the parent community to help our students succeed. Use my website and the blog to support your child's learning.
