Where Children and parents can discuss their thinking, ideas and the world!
Fall or Autumn is full of deep and beautiful colors. As you know by now, I love to take pictures and share them with you! Many of the plants and vegetables in these pictures are indigenous or come from this part of the world. Please look at the pictures and read the captions. There are questions that will help you to think and learn more about the what is around you. You can visit our blog a few times this week. Have fun looking at the pictures. I had lots of fun taking them! Bundles of Indian corn tell us that fall is here. Corn or "maize" comes from the Americas. It was here before the Americas were colonized. Indian corn reminds us of Thanksgiving and the Pilgrims. Why are they bundles? Can you think of why we say these bundles have an ornamental or decorative use? Did you know that we say "an ear of corn" for one piece or cob or corn? What do you think? Can you guess what these plants are? Look closely at their leaves. They look like a vegetable that many of you eat. These plants are ornamental vegetables but you can eat them too. They are not as delicious as the ones you buy in the store and they turn bitter when you cook them. What is bitter? Did you guess what plant this is?
